Chapter III

The circumstance surrounding InuYasha's birth is explained in the third InuYasha movie, Tenka Hadou no Ken (Swords of an Honorable Ruler). Although slightly contradicting to the information found in InuYasha Profiles, which states that InuYasha was born in a "poor an isolated house", the movie gives us a dramatic sequence of events. This page will be more of a summary than anything else, so there will be spoilers if you haven't seen the movie yet.

A large full moon can be seen in the sky as Inu no Taisho stands near the ocean. Snow covers the ground. As the camera pans up his body, viewers can immediately tell he is gravely injured. Blood is steadily dripping down his arm from wounds inflicted during his fight with Ryukossei. Although Inu no Taisho stands strong, the wounds have sealed his fate - Inu no Taisho is not long for this world. Despite his injuries, Inu no Taisho is determined not to miss the birth of his second child. After reverting back into his massive youkai form, Inu no Taisho races towards Izayoi, ignoring the desperate pleas from Myouga, but it would appear that time is on neither's side. The scene changes, and we are lead up to a large, heavily guarded mansion deep in the forest. Inside is Izayoi. who appears to be in labor. She weakly calls for her "dearest". A man appears in the corridors, he is dressed and ready for battle and appears to be a high-ranking guard. As he makes his way towards Izayoi, he stopped from entering her chamber by the midwife - men are not allowed here, she tells him. He ignores the elderly woman at first, but when she persists, he kills her with his spear.

Inside the chamber, Izayoi weakly asks who has just entered, and the man replies that it is Setsuna no Takemaru. She is relieved that he has come. Izayoi wastes no time in tellling him to take everyone out of the castle, for "he" is coming and there is surely no one strong enough to slay him. Takemaru ignores Izayoi's words and tells her that for a long time he has harboured strong feelings of love, yet one can see Takemaru is filled only with jelousy and hatred now. Takemaru knows that the child this woman will birth will be a hanyou - she has defiled herself by becoming a youkai's lover. With this hatred building inside, Takemaru tells Izayoi that he will always have feelings for her, but her body has been taken over by a youkai and she must be killed. With that, he impales Izayoi in the chest, causing her to scream out in pain. Weak and dying, Izayoi gazes at the moon, and hears the howl of Inu no Taisho in the distance. Takemaru then takes him leave.

Although the camera follows Takemaru, we hear in the background a child crying. Despite his attempt to kill the unborn baby, it appears the child was born unharmed. Takemaru, however, has no time to rid himself of the baby, for a large blast can be heard, signaling the arrival of the child's father. The enraged lord easily makes his way through the castle gate, blasting through the guards, calling out for Izayoi. Takemaru tells him he is too late as he races towrds him. But Takemaru is no match: Ino no Taisho easily slices off his arm, heading inside the building to find his love. Takemaru orders the building to be set aflame, and soon follows after him. As the building becomes engulfed in flames, Inu no Taisho follows the sound of a crying baby, eventually locating Izayoi. But he finds truth to Take Using Tenseiga, Inu no Taishou wishes her life to be saved, which it is. As Izayoi opens her eyes, Inu no Taisho kneels and wraps around her the Robe of the Fire Rat. The building begins to collapse as Takemaru enters. He has no regrets dying in this place so long as this youkai dies with him. Inu no Taishou names the child InuYasha, then orders Izayoi to leave - she must live on for their son. As the two reach a safe distance, Izayoi turns in time to see the destroyed castle fall ontop of her lover. who was still fighting inside.
