InuYasha is a mixture of genres: comedy, action and romance all combine to make the series what it is. The story is set mostly is Feudal Japan, during the Warring States Era, where we first meet the title character, InuYasha. A hanyou born to a demon father and a human mother, InuYasha sought to use the powers of the Shikon no Tama (Jewel of Four Souls) in order to become a demon. However, through a twist of fate InuYasha found himself in love with the jewel's protector, Kikyou. Kikyou told him of another way to use the jewel: he could become human instead. InuYasha agreed, and a meeting place was set up. Lurking in the darkness, however, was another man who coveted Kikyou: Naraku. Through his deception, InuYasha and Kikyou would be torn apart, each being left with a deep hatred for the other. On the day Kikyou was to give InuYasha the jewel, Naraku disguised himself as InuYasha and viciously attacked Kikyou, talling her that he never had any intention of becoming human. Naraku then shifted forms, changing himself into Kikyou. As InuYasha made his way to the meeting place, the false Kikyou fired her arrows at him, screaming that she had never intended to give him the jewel. Enraged, InuYasha ransaked the village in search of the jewel, and once found he easily avoided the villager's pathetic attack. As Kikyou stumbled back to her village, she found InuYasha running away with the jewel in hand. Using the last of her strength, she fired a sealing arrow that lodged in his right chest, pushin him back into the sacred Goshinboku Tree. The jewel fell from his hands, and Kikyou proceeded to pick it up. The nightmare was over, and by the day's end Kikyou had fallen from her wounds and the Shikon no Tama was burned with her corpse ...
